UTEA is a part of the Union Community!
This pandemic has taken many things away from our Union children and not just normal classrooms, but entertaining things like field trips and playdates. Yes, UTEA members educate, but we should also help kids have fun. And that’s why it’s so important to show our residents that we care for them.
Over this past year, the UTEA sponsored ten family field trips to the Caldwell Parsonage in town. Participants went home with some goodies, and to help local restaurants one of those goodies was a $5 gift certificate. Schools were matched with neighborhood restaurants. The UTEA was able to patronize Bagels & Beans, Café Z, Cioffi’s, Cozy Corner, Dunkin’ Donuts, Glendale, Mr. Subs and Nunzios. The volunteers at the Union Township Historical Society (UTHS) did an excellent job showing off the Parsonage, and the many, many UTEA volunteers who greeted the family were indispensable. And did you know, the Parsonage gets by on donations only, but our grant paid admission for all the guests. It was a fantastic joint community activity between the UTEA and the UTHS. Thank you to all who participated.
And as for playdates, they were few and far between during the pandemic. That’s why the UTEA sponsored a Zoom Family Game Night. Families who signed up received a Scrabble, Jr game and a discount at Cioffi’s restaurant. It was one very large and successful game night.
Our next event is the Bike Rodeo (Map) Saturday, May 22 from 7 to 11 am, and this is where you come in – the UTEA needs volunteers. So far, there are two, but that’s not enough. Come spend a few hours to say hello to our students outside the classroom. Please contact me if you can help.
